Ubiquinone is the oxidized form of the CoQ10 enzyme important to proper functioning of the body’s many microscopic power factories known as mitochondria. Ubiquinone must first be chemically reduced to ubiquinol before it will benefit mitochondrial health.
Ubiquinone is generally the least expensive form of CoQ10 supplementation when considered purely on cost per milligram. However, it is consistently regarded as only half to one eight as effective on a per milligram basis versus more expensive supplements such as ubiquinol and idebenone.
Please see our summary on CoQ10 for comparisons between the various CoQ10 type of supplements and additional discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of each.
