Telomeres May Shorten More Quickly and Lead to Early Death Due to Oxidative and Inflammatory Damage

Researchers from the University of Washington have found a weak link between leukocyte (white blood cell) telomere length and increased risk of mortality in aging humans. In their study Leukocyte Telomere Length and Mortality in the Cardiovascular Health Study, they … Continue reading

Vitamin-Like PQQ Offers Antioxidant, Neuroprotective, and Mitochondrial Health Benefits

PQQ is a vitamin-like nutrient that may be very important to the functioning of mitochondria in animals and humans. Research is showing that it protects mitochrondria in cells from oxidative damage and may also help increase the number of energy-producing mitochondria. It also appears to help protect neurons from oxidative damage similar to that believed to be involved in various neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Yet PQQ is not found in high quantities in most Western foods, unlike typical foods in the Japanese diet which are relatively high in PQQ. Thus there may be good use for PQQ supplements. Unfortunately, they are widely sold as of yet.

TA-65 Telomere Lengthening Just One Part of Anti-Aging Healthcare

Geron Corporation has discovered a number of telomerase activators that can lengthen the telomeres on the ends of DNA strands that act as a sort of biological aging clock for cellular division. One of these compounds, TA-65, has become widely known as one of Geron’s affiliated companies, TA Sciences, has started selling it and related testing services to the public. TA-65 does seem to do what is claimed, particularly in people with aging immune systems. But there is a lot more involved with fighting aging than keeping your telomeres long.
