Vitamin-Like PQQ Offers Antioxidant, Neuroprotective, and Mitochondrial Health Benefits

PQQ is a vitamin-like nutrient that may be very important to the functioning of mitochondria in animals and humans. Research is showing that it protects mitochrondria in cells from oxidative damage and may also help increase the number of energy-producing mitochondria. It also appears to help protect neurons from oxidative damage similar to that believed to be involved in various neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Yet PQQ is not found in high quantities in most Western foods, unlike typical foods in the Japanese diet which are relatively high in PQQ. Thus there may be good use for PQQ supplements. Unfortunately, they are widely sold as of yet.
