Sjögren’s Syndrome Patients May Suffer Symptoms Similar to Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and Multiple Sclerosis

Recently I have been reviewing chronic fatigue and pain symptoms for somebody I know. Most of the symptoms sound a lot like those of fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome, but this person also has chronic dry eyes with blurry vision … Continue reading

Melatonin Helps Improve Sleep and Boost Immune System, Little Sign of Toxicity Even At Very High Doses

Melatonin is a hormone produced by the pineal gland from the body’s supply of serotonin. Its best known use is to help regular the daily sleep/wake cycle. It also functions as a strong antioxidant and an immune system booster. It’s … Continue reading

Telomeres May Shorten More Quickly and Lead to Early Death Due to Oxidative and Inflammatory Damage

Researchers from the University of Washington have found a weak link between leukocyte (white blood cell) telomere length and increased risk of mortality in aging humans. In their study Leukocyte Telomere Length and Mortality in the Cardiovascular Health Study, they … Continue reading

Glucosinolates and Sulforaphane in Broccoli and Cruciferous Vegetables May Help Prevent and Treat Cardiovascular Disease, Diabetes, Bacterial Infections, and Some Cancers

Sulforaphane is a biochemical nutrient found naturally in broccoli and many other cruciferous vegetables. It is created by a reaction between the enzyme myrosinase and glucoraphanin, one of the forms of glucosinolates found in cruciferous vegetables that is readily converted … Continue reading

TA-65 Anti-Aging Study Shows Health Increase In Adult and Old Mice from Telomerase Lengthening

The biomedical research journal Aging Cell recently published a study entitled Telomerase activator TA-65 elongates short telomeres and increases health span of adult/old mice without increasing cancer incidence. The research adds to the growing evidence that TA-65 can lengthen very … Continue reading

Tired All the Time for Months or Years? Here’s A Resource With Many Possible Explanations.

While recently writing about adrenal fatigue, depression, and anxiety, I’ve been doing a lot of reading on chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia (also known as myalgic encephalomyelitis), and hormonal imbalances that are also commonly associated with severe fatigue, chronic pain, and … Continue reading

Great Combo Deal on Vitamin D and CBC Blood Tests for $45

Inadequate levels of vitamin D in the blood are a chronic and epidemic problem in most parts of the developed world. But overcoming this problem requires vitamin D blood tests because of the highly variable nature of the body’s response to vitamin D. Fortunately, there’s a great deal on a combined CBC (Completed Blood Chemistry) and vitamin D test available via an offer through Life Extension for only $45 through January 3, 2011. This article also provides a source for 5000 IU vitamin D3 softgels that should cost most people less than $2 per month for enough vitamin D to achieve adequate blood levels.

How Astragalus Extracts Help Immune System Fight Viruses

Astragalus has for centuries been attributed with immune system boosting properties. Recent research suggests this may be related to how several compounds found in astragalus, including TA-65 and TAT2, help restore the telomeres in immune system cells. This allows them to replicate further to fight chronic viral infections that accelerate the aging of the immune system cells towards senescence. This benefit may not be limited to those suffering from chronic viral infections. Research is showing that non-infectious chronic inflammatory conditions, such as those caused by smoking, may also be tied to immunosenescence that might be ameliorated by telomerase activating compounds.

TA-65 Telomere Lengthening Just One Part of Anti-Aging Healthcare

Geron Corporation has discovered a number of telomerase activators that can lengthen the telomeres on the ends of DNA strands that act as a sort of biological aging clock for cellular division. One of these compounds, TA-65, has become widely known as one of Geron’s affiliated companies, TA Sciences, has started selling it and related testing services to the public. TA-65 does seem to do what is claimed, particularly in people with aging immune systems. But there is a lot more involved with fighting aging than keeping your telomeres long.
